RE: North Anna AIT Daily Debrief Chris No'problems.

I probably misunderstood Al's original email when he stated"During the OpE clearinghouse meeting yesterday, I was asked if NRO is interested in participating in the North Anna AIT" It sounded like we were still trying to staff up the AIT. Sounds like we are well past that. Participating in status calls is up to you guys From: Cook, Christopher Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 8:45 AM To: Karas, Rebecca; Frye, Timothy Cc: Munson, Clifford

RE: North Anna AIT Daily Debrief 27 I will call iri today to the NA AIT.Tim... please give me a call if this will cause you heartburn.

Yong Li, who's in my branch but on rotation to NRR/DE, is part of the AIT as the lead seismologist.

Becky & my participation in the calls will just expedite communication that's already occurring.

My plan is to only listen.Christopher B. Cook, Ph.D.Chief, Geoscience and Geotechnical Engineering Branch 2 US NRC, Office of New Reactors (301) 415-6397 Christopher.

RE: North Anna AIT Daily Debrief Al The decision for NRO participation in an AIT probably occurs at the Office Director level. I don't think that we can be making such a decision at our level. Participation in NRR OpE followup tasks is different, and can be coordinated between you and Chris From: Cook, Christopher Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 8:00 AM To: Issa, Alfred Cc: Frye, Timothy; Karas, Rebecca

FW: North Anna AIT Daily Debrief Hello Mr. Cook, During the OpE clearinghouse meeting yesterday, I was asked if NRO is interested in participating in the North Anna AIT. My understanding is that the plant exceeded its design basis acceleration level at 5 HZ during the recent earthquake.

This relates to the GAO question related to geo-science issues that we plan to discuss.Your group is probably best suited to participate if you think that the lessons learned have the potential to impact new reactors.

In addition, if interested, NRO can participate in the AIT daily debriefs as detailed below.Per LIC-401, an AIT results in an Issue For Resolution (IFR) for OpE and we, in ConE, have the option to either participate in the resolution of their IFR or to initiate our own IFR. We would need your group's input to make that decision.

I would like to add this topic to the GAO question discussion when we meet today. Your calendar shows that you're available from 10-12. I was hoping to meet at 10:30. Please let me know if you would be available.

Thank you-" 17m4ss, P. E.aleissa@nc o (301) 4/5-5342 From: Bernardo, Robert.......
