Schedule Revision for EP Augmentation Times LAR By letter dated November 7, 2022 (ADAMS Accession No. ML22312A550), as supplemented by letters dated March 30, 2023 (ADAMS Accession No. ML23089A354) and Octobe 12, 2023 (ADAMS Accession No. ML23285A066), Virginia Electric Power Company (VEPCO) submitted a license amendment request related to emergency preparedness staff augmentation times. On December 1, 2022 (ADAMS Accession No. ML22335A484), the NRC staff notified you that your alternative request had been accepted for review and estimated a completion date by December 1, 2023, and 460 NRC staff hours to complete.
Some of the technical complexities that have been encountered in this review were not accounted for in the initial review schedule. Specifically, there has been significant engagement and technical discussion regarding some of the technical areas (e.g., Command and Control, Radiation Protection, and Troubleshooting and Repair Activities). The purpose of this email is to officially inform you that the NRC is adjusting its original schedule to account for this unexpected review complexity.
The NRC staff now estimates that this licensing review will take until March 29, 2024, to complete. The NRC staff is not proposing any changes to the staff hour estimate. These estimates could change due to several factors such as requests for additional information and unanticipated addition of scope to the review. If there are emergent complexities or challenges in our review that would result in further changes in the review schedule, a revised estimate will be separately communicated to you.
The change in the estimated completion date and estimated hours was approved by the Deputy Director of the Division of Operating Reactor Licensing.
