APPLICABILITY The normal makeupsystem contains th'ee charging pumps, all of which are normally in service. With the RCStemperature above 210°F, a minimum of two charging puml)s is required to mitigate the effects of a small line break ow_r all of the expected operating pressures. A minimum of tl_o boron injection systems is also required to ensure single fuilctional capability in those events where an assumedfailur_ renders one of the systems inoperable. With the RCStew_perature below 210°F, one system is acceptable without single =ailure consideration based on the stable reactivity condition o the reactor and the additional restrictions prohibiting OREALTERATIONS and positive reactivity changes.
In MODES1-4, charging pumps are rec Lired in order to accomplish boron injection over the 'ull range of expected reactor coolant system pressure. Th,_provision of three charging pumpswhen only two are reqLLired provides for maintenance and flexibility of operal;ion. In modes 5 and 6, the safety grade high pressure and l(_w pressure safety injection pumps are capable of deliw_ring the required flow rates. Since they are also energize( from an emergency power supply, they are acceptable alternatves if a charging pump is not OPERABLE at low system pressures ACTIONS In MODES1-4, the allowable out-of-s_rvice period of 72 hours for one required boration system in%erable is consistent with those for safety related equipment. This time allows for minor component repair or corrective actior without undue risk of overall facility safety during the r_pair period. If restoration can not be accomplished in 72 hours, enter TLCO 3.0.100.3 and initiate corrective action in accordance with PVNGScorrective action program and initiate an operability determination, as necessary to detern_ine the impact on equipment in the technical specifications. This should include an assessment of the plant configuralion and a determination of the appropriate compensatory action and/or Mode changes to maintain safe operation and compliance with design and licensing basis.

Since they are also energize( from an emergency power supply, they are acceptable alternatves if a charging pump is not OPERABLE at low system pressures ACTIONS In MODES1-4, the allowable out-of-s_rvice period of 72 hours8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
for one required boration system in%erable is consistent with those for safety related equipment. This time allows for minor component repair or corrective actior without undue risk of overall facility safety during the r_pair period. If restoration can not be accomplished in 72 hours8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
, enter TLCO 3.0.100.3 and initiate corrective action in accordance with PVNGScorrective action program and initiate an operability determination, as necessary to detern_ine the impact on equipment in the technical specifications. This should include an assessment of the plant configuralion and a determination of the appropriate compensatory action and/or Mode changes to maintain safe operation and compliance with design and licensing basis.
