OF NOVEMBER 20, 1985, MEETING REGARDING B&W FUEL
' ASSEMBLY DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM AT MCGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 On November 20, 1985 the NRC staff met with Duke Power Company and Babcock and
< Wilcox to discuss the B&W 17x17 fuel assembly design and plans for a fuel de-monstration program at McGuire Nuclear Station. Meeting attendees are listed in the enclosure.
A test program for mechanical and hydraulic aspects will be conducted to support licensing requirements and to qualify the design for full batch implementation.
Demonstration assemblies are tentatively scheduled for installation in McGuire j
Unit 2 during 1987. Additional information regarding the demonstration program and the report regarding fuel cycle peaking limits required by Technical Speci-
, fications 6.9.1.9 will be provided to the NRC in the spring of 1987.
Representatives of B&W also described a new critical heat flux correlation being l developed for the assessment of the associated core thermal / hydraulic analyses.
