VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY SURRY POWER STATION UNITS 1 and 2 SAFETY-RELATED MOTOR-OPERATED VALVE TESTING AND SURVEILLANCE - GENERIC LETTER 89-10 On March 29, 1996, Mr. E. H. Girard of the NRC held an exit meeting regarding his inspection for the closure of Generic Letter (GL) 89-10, Safety-Related Motor-Operated Valve Testing and Surveillance. This letter documents the following commitments discussed during the GL 89-10 close-out inspection:

PORV Block Valves The available margin will be increased an additional 10-15% for PORV block valves RC-1535, -1536, and -2535 during the next refueling outages. The next refueling outages are currently scheduled for February 1997 and May 1996 for Units 1 and 2, respectively.

96 Inch Pratt Butterfly Valves Within the next year, torque data will be obtained on a representative 96 inch Pratt MOV during a valve stroke under system flow and differential pressure conditions to support the sizing methodology.
