By letter dated July 27, 2016 (Agencywide Documents and Access Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML 16215A192), Dominion (the licensee) requested for North Anna Units No.1 and 2, an approval of the proposed inservice inspecti on (ISI) alternative N1-14-NDE-008 and N2-14-NDE-003, to extend the interval for reactor vessel Examination Category 8-A and 8-D pressure retaining welds from 10 years to 20 year s in accordance with WCAP-16168-NP, Risk-Informed Extension of Reactor Vessel In-Service Inspection Interval. The pur pose of this e-mail is to provide the results of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sta ff's acceptance review of this relief request. The acceptance review was performed to determine if ther e is sufficient technica l information in scope and depth to allow the NRC staff to complete its detailed technical review. The acceptance review is also intended to identify whether the application has any readily apparent information insufficiencies in its characterization of the regulatory requireme nts or the licensing bas is of the plant.

The NRC staff has reviewed the submittal and concluded that it does provide technical information in sufficient detail to enable the NRC staff to complete its detailed technical review and make an independent assessment regarding t he acceptability of the proposed request in terms of regulatory requirements and the protection of public health and safety and the environment. Given the lesser scope and depth of the acceptance review as compar ed to the detailed technical review, there may be instances in which issues that impact the NRC staff's ability to complete the detailed technical review are identified despite completion of an adequat e acceptance review. If ad ditional information is needed, you will be advised by separate correspondence.
