David Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Hosts Virtual Meeting to Discuss 2020 Safety Performance of V.C. Summer, North Anna and Surry Nuclear Power Plants The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will discuss the 2020 safety performance of the V.C.

Summer, North Anna and Surry nuclear power plants during a virtual meeting scheduled for April 22.

The single-unit Summer plant is located near Jenkinsville, S.C., approximately 26 miles northwest of Columbia. The North Anna plant is in central Virginia and the Surry plant is in southeastern Virginia. Dominion Energy operates all three facilities.

The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. EDT with a presentation by the NRC staff responsible for plant inspections. Following the formal portion of the meeting, NRC staff, including the resident inspectors, will be available to answer questions from the public.

The public and media can access the meeting via Teams. For those without access to Teams, the telephone conference number is 301-576-2978, passcode 69594262#.

NRC resident inspectors and other inspection specialists from the Region II office in Atlanta performed inspections at the three sites and determined that the Summer, North Anna and Surry plants operated safely during 2020. All three plants are currently under the NRCs normal level of oversight.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or, red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.

The annual assessment letters for the Summer plant, North Anna plant and the Surry plant, which include upcoming inspection plans for the plants, are available on the NRC website. Current performance information for Summer Unit 1, North Anna Unit 1, North Anna Unit 2, Surry Unit 1, and Surry Unit 2 is also available and is updated quarterly.
