Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Schedules Regulatory Conference with Dominion Energy To Discuss Preliminary Yellow Finding for Inoperable Diesel

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a regulatory conferencewith officials from Dominion Energy on Nov. 13 to discuss the safety significance of a preliminary yellow finding at the V.C. Summer nuclear power plant in Jenkinsville, South Carolina.

The finding is related to the licensees failure to identify and correct a problem with one of the plant s emergency diesel generators. The NRC staff preliminarily characterized the finding under the NRCs color-coded system in the reactor oversight process as yellow, or having substantial safety significance that could result in additional NRC inspections.

In November 2022, operators discovered a leak from a cracked fuel oil pipe in the emergency diesel generator during routine testing. Despite previous instances of similar issues, the NRC found Dominion Energy did not make significant maintenance or design changes to correct the issue. The finding is detailed in an October inspection report.

The conferencestarts at 10 a.m. Eastern time at the NRCs Region II Office, Marquis One Tower, 245 Peachtree Center Avenue NE, in Atlanta. The NRC staff will be available to answer questions from the public after the formal part of the meeting.

Members of the public can listen to the meeting by phone by calling 301-576-2978 and entering the conference number 702832471#.

During the conference, Dominion Energy officials will have the opportunity to present their perspective on the findings, provide additional information and clarification, and discuss corrective actions taken or planned.
