No: 21-033 August 27, 2021 CONTACT: Scott Burnell, 301-415-8200 NRC Seeks Public Comment on Draft Environmental Impact Statement for North Anna Subsequent License Renewal Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff wants to hear the publics views on the agencys Draft Environmental Impact Statement regarding Dominion Energy Virginias application for an additional 20 years of operation of the North Anna Power Station Units 1 and 2. The NRC is interested in comments on the statements draft conclusion: environmental impacts are not great enough to prevent the agency from considering issuance of the renewed licenses.
NRC staff will consider written comments on the draft EIS until Oct. 12, as stated in the published notice in the Federal Register. Include Docket ID NRC-2020-0234 with your comment, via the regulations.gov website. Comments can also be submitted via email to NorthAnnaEnvironmental@nrc.gov or via mail to Office of Administration, Mail Stop:

The staff will hold a webinar on the draft EIS in September, including a presentation on the preliminary findings and a transcribed public comment session. The webinar details will be announced in the near future and will be posted on the NRCs public meetings schedule webpage at https://www.nrc.gov/pmns/mtg.
Dominion submitted the subsequent license renewal application on Aug. 24, 2020, for the North Anna units, located approximately 40 miles northwest of Richmond. The subsequent license renewal process determines whether an operating reactor can extend its license for an additional 20 years (initial license renewals add 20 years to a reactors original 40-year license). The application, with proprietary details removed, is available on the NRC website. In addition, a copy of the application and draft EIS is available for public inspection at the Louisa County Library, 881 Davis Hwy in Mineral, Virginia.
