Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at VC Summer Nuclear Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Khanya Dials as the agency's new resident inspector at the Virgil C. Summer nuclear power plant in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. He joins Senior Resident Inspector Mac Read at the plant, operated by Dominion Energy.

Dials joined the NRC in 2023 as a project engineer in the Resident Inspector Development Program in the Region II office. He holds a bachelors degree in nuclear engineering technology from Excelsior College and a masters degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix.

Before joining the NRC, Dials held various roles at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, including radiological auditor and nuclear project engineer. He also served for more than nine years in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear machinist's mate.

Khanya brings a wealth of experience from his time at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and his extensive service in the U.S. Navy, said NRC Region II Administrator Laura Dudes. With his deep understanding of nuclear operations and commitment to rigorous safety standards, Im confident he will excel in his new role at the Summer plant.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
