The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a hybrid public meeting May 25 to discuss the 2022 safety performance of the Virgil C. Summer nuclear power plant. The plant, which is located in Jenkinsville, South Carolina, is operated by Dominion Energy.

The meeting will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Eastern time at the McCrorey -Liston School of Technology, 1978 State Hwy 215 in Blair, South Carolina. The public can also access the meeting via Microsoft Teams or by phone. The telephone conference number is 301-576-2978, passcode 397871015#. NRC staff responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to answer questions at the meeting.

The NRC concluded that VC Summer operated safely in 2022. However, the plant has been under increased NRC oversight since January 2022 for a findingrelated to an inoperable emergency diesel generator. During a March 2023 inspection, the NRC confirmed that the plant corrected that issue. The plant remains under increased NRC oversight for an unrelated September 2022 security -

related issue. The NRC has scheduled an additional inspection in June 2023 to independently verify that the plant has taken sufficient corrective actions to address the second problem.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, equal with the safety significance of the issues involved. If an inspection finding or performance indicator has more than a very low safety significance, the NRC increases its oversight.

The annual assessment letter for the VC Summer plant, including upcoming inspection plans, is available on the NRC website. Current performance informationfor the site is available on the NRC website and updated quarterly.
