' Based on fuel assembly sipping results, the li.censee had identified and reported or January 31, 1980, nine fuel assec1blies centaining leaking fuel Dins. Visual exam-ination of five of thesa. assentlies, t.ose scheduled for recycle to the core, had

identified ten failed fuel pins. At least two of the pins, located on assembly peripheries, acpear to be missing segrrents. Danaged fuel assemblies are being re-i constitutsd. ? cst-repair eddy cur en_t_ testing is planned to demonstr' ate that-

i the extent of the problem. Tne licensee is considering issuing a press release on February 21, 1980, clarifying the cues:icn of the location of the potentially missi fuel. NRC, Region I (?hiladelphia) is also considering a press release.

The State of Maine has been infortt.ed. HP.C, Region I received clarificatio[relativ to this occurrence by telephone frca the W.C Project Inspector currently onsite at 9:20 A.M. on February 21, 1950.
