POSSIBLE STRIKE BY UNION EMPLOYEES Labor negotiations are underway for a new union contract.

The current contract expires at 00:01 a.m., 9/2/75; however, there is a contract pro-i vision to extend the strike deadline by 48 hours5.555556e-4 days <br />0.0133 hours <br />7.936508e-5 weeks <br />1.8264e-5 months <br />. Management is optimis-tic that a strike will be averted.

i The licensee plans, if necessary, to operate the plant with non-union I

people. At Region I's request the licensee has developed a plan for this g

operation; the plan has been reviewed and approved by the onsite and off-f site committees.

's Region I inspection findings are that the plant can be operated safely in accordance with the licensee's plan by non-union people.

Inspection coverage will be provided if the strike occurs,.

Media interest is expected because of previous concerns related to strikes at nuclear facilities. The State of Maine has been and is being kept in-formed. A press release is not planned.

OIE received notification of this occurrence by telephone from inspector onsite at various times during the week of 8/24.
