The NRC Fukushima Near-Term Task Force (NTTF) Report (Reference 1), discussed the gap in capability for US commercial nuclear power plants to perform multi-unit dose assessments. In January 2013, the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) provided to the NRC (Reference 2) survey results regarding licensees' capabilities to perform multi-unit dose assessments, implementation time frames to obtain multi-unit dose assessment capability, and compensatory measures for the interim period. In Reference 3, the NRC requested further detailed information regarding the current and the anticipated capabilities of sites to perform multi-unit dose assessment. NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC provided a response to this request in Reference 4. On September 5, 2013, the NRC held a public teleconference with licensee to discuss the use of manual calculations to perform multi-unit dose assessment. The staff expressed concern that the manual calculation appeared to be an interim and permanent multi-uniVmulti-source dose assessment capability, rather than a fully automated permanent capability. In response to this concern, NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC agreed to implement the full multi-uniVmulti-source dose assessment computer model RASCAL Unified Rascal Interface (URI) version by December 31, 2014.
