SNM-2500 - ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW (CAC/EPID NOS. 001028/L-2020-RNW-0024 AND 000993/L-2020-LNE-0004)

Dear Mr. Murray:

By letter dated June 30, 2020, as supplemented February 26, 2021, March 19, 2021, and March 24, 2021, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Americas LLC (GEH) submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) an application for renewal of License No. SNM-2500 for the Morris Operation (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)

Accession Nos. ML20182A699, ML21057A119, ML21085A859, and ML21083A200). The submittal of the license renewal application was timely per the requirement of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 72.42(c) and the exemption dated May 13, 2020 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20134H885). The current license expires on May 31, 2022. In the application, GEH requested to renew the license for an additional 20 years. The NRC staff performed an acceptance review of the application to determine if the application contains sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the staff to begin a detailed technical review.

This letter acknowledges acceptance of your application. We have established a schedule for the review. The schedule allows for the staff to complete its review and issue a request for additional information (RAI) in July 2021 (for the environmental review) and August 2021 (for the technical review). If GEH provides a sufficient response to the RAI in September 2021 (for the environmental review) and October 2021 (for the technical review), and a second RAI is not needed, we estimate making a decision on the license renewal in May 2022. We estimate that the staff may need approximately 1300 hours0.015 days <br />0.361 hours <br />0.00215 weeks <br />4.9465e-4 months <br /> and $125,000 contract dollars to complete its review. The review schedule and estimate assumes one RAI. If an additional RAI is needed, the staff will keep you informed of any schedule or estimate changes. In general, no additional changes to the application should be submitted except for changes resulting from your response to a RAI.
