2 RULEMAKINGS 0BPart 61: Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Key Contact George Tartal (301-415-0016)

Purpose Rulemaking for a site-specific analysis or performance assessment for the disposal of depleted uranium and other long-lived isotopes in a near-surface disposal facility.

Key Information

  • In SECY-20-0098, the NRC staff recommended to the Commission that this rulemaking and the rulemaking to promulgate requirements for the near-surface disposal of greater-than-Class C (GTCC) waste (GTCC waste rulemaking) be consolidated and integrated into one proposed rule as these two rulemaking efforts would both amend 10 CFR Part 61 and have related proposed requirements. The recommendation to consolidate is based on based on expected cost savings, consideration of stakeholder input, and efficiencies.
