. RE: Potomac Electric Power Company Douglas Point Nuclear Generating

, Station, Units l and 2 Docket Nos. 50-448 and 50-449

Dear Dr. Butler:

?' This is in response to your letter of May 28, 1975 which requests

,- a schedule for providing detailed information on the Mark III containment system for Douglas Point Nuclear Generating Station.

As you know, in November, 1974 the Potomac Electric Power Company l

.. deferred the commercial operation dates for Douglas Point Units 1 and 2 to 1985 and 1987 respectively. Since taking this action, ent, ineer Lng has been largely suspended. As a result, the contain-ment system design is not yet sufficiently developed to provide the I detailed 1cvel of information which you are requesting. Speficially, the current schedule for completing the applicable portion of struc-tural design is one year prior to start of construction. Therefore, we are planning to submit the information which you have requested during the first half of 1978. It is expected that the containment system structural dasign and anticipated loads will be similar to those of other Mark III containments which the Staff will have reviewed by that time. Results of development work occurring prior to submittal of this information will be factored into the Douglas i Point design. j In establishing this schedule, we have given heavy consideration to assuring support of the licensing activities which PEPC0 and the NRC Staff are jointly pursuing.
