Deficiencies in the Corrective Action and Calculation Verification Programs Your letter of July 16,1997, which transmitted Inspection Report No. 97008, required a response to a Notice of Violation. Our response to the notice was submitted by letter dated August 15,1997. In that letter and attached response we made several new Nuclear Regulatory Commission commitments. All of the commitments required to be completed by r'ow have been completed, with the exception of one, which was intended to be competed by March 31,1998.
The commitment not completed yet has to do with the violation on discrepancies found in engineering calculations. Several short-term and long-term corrective actions were specified to ensure adequate calculations are performed. The one commitment that won't be completed in the time specified is:
A sample of calculations will be reviewed to determine the extent of the potential problem with inaccuracies in design calculations by March 31,1998.
Our Quality Services Department has performed an audit of the Prairie Island Design Bases Control functions, including evaluations of several engineering calculations.
However, we have not completed the sampling which the engineering department is \.
responsible to perform. The results of the audit findings will be factored into the y\
