Initial investigation found a PCIS fuse blown. Operations declared a 24 hour2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
Limiting Condition for Operation (LCO) per Technical Specifications (TS) 3.6.C.4 for the inoperability of the drywell floor and equipment drain sumps. Maintenance personnel investigated and found that a failed PCIS relay coil had caused the blown fuse. They replaced the failed relay coil,

, and the drywell floor and equipment drain system was thereby reestablished, and the LCO exited. The total duration of this event was approximately 8 hours9.259259e-5 days
0.00222 hours
1.322751e-5 weeks
3.044e-6 months
and within TS requirements. This failed relay (a CR120A model) had been in service, in the normally-energized state, for approximately 23 years. It is believed that the failure is age-related, and that degradation had escalated rapidly since the previous thermography inspection . To preclude further system interruptions, coil replacement of the remaining 16 normally energized CR120A relay coils is scheduled to be accomplished by startup from Refuel Outage 15, projected for May 1998.
