DOCKET NO.: 50-0331 DATE: 02/09/96 Unit: Duane Amold Enerev Center COMPLETED BY: Richard Woodward TELEPHONE: (319)851-7318 Monthly Operational Overview for January 1996:

T1 9AEC operated at full thermal power throughout the month except:

 • January 6 - 7, to perform scheduled turbine control valve surveillance testing and a control rod sequence exchange,1.5 full power-hours lost.

. January 10 11, to backseat Outboard HPCI Steam Supply Valve M02239 to repair a small packing leak,1.0 full-power hours lost. (A power reduction was required to allow personnel entry into steam tunnel.)

 • January 17 - 20, for an auto-trip of the "B" Recirculation Pump MG Set,33.4 full-power-hours lost.

Total forgone production (including other small planned losses) was the equivalent of 39.9 full-power hours of operation.

The 'B' Reactor Feed Pump and 'B' Condensate Pump were secured at 2217. Prompt operator response resulted in a relatively smooth transient. Immediate and followup actions were completed and the plant stablized at 39% power. Initialinvestigation revealed the MG Set tripped on exciter field undervoltage.

The 'B' Recirc MG Set was re-started January 19 around 2130. Prior to the MG Set being restarted a number of replacement, and in some cases upgraded, parts were installed in exciter rectification and voltage regulator circuitry. New brushes were also installed and the slip rings cleaned. Power was increased to 100% January 20 and 21.

Maintaining adequate cooling tower circulation water temperature during cold weather with only one of two recirculation loops caused some difficulties. The cooling tower fans were shut-off the evening of January 18 to achieve temperature control. This also helped reduce ice accumulation on the towers.

At 1816 on February 1, the DAEC exceeded its previous best continuous operating run record: 240 days,14 hours1.62037e-4 days
0.00389 hours
2.314815e-5 weeks
5.327e-6 months
,41 minutes.
