Dear Mr. Beckham:

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON APPENDIX R IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE FOR HATCH 1 AND 2 Tais letter responds to your request for a schedular exemption dated-May 25, 1984. We find that your letter lacks the specificity needed to grant the request. - In order to assure adequate fire protection, we must consider the specific modifications which will be delayed, the

-period of the delay (whether outage related or not) and the compensatory measures for each of these.

If manpower constraints are a problem, we suggest that you first address the affected modifications not requiring an outage. This would help ensure that we complete the exemption review for these items before October, 1984.

In general, the proposed schedules appear acceptable if we can reach agreement on the compensatory measures.

The foregoing is consistent with discussions held over the telephone on June 6,1984 between Mr. Burns (GPC), Mr. Wambach (NRC) and Mr. Kadambi (NRC).

We will proceed with further consideration of your request after we receive the additional information.

Sincerely, O c b/Y tt-tk hr b George W. Rivenbark, Acting Chief Operating Reactors Branch #4 Division of Licensing cc: See next page kPL.
