EDWIN I. HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1, 2 RESPONSE TO 10 CFR 50.48 Ato APPENDIX R Gentlemen:

Georgia Power Company requested by our letter of March 19, 1981, that the date for the submittal of certain information requested by Enclosure 2 to the NRC February 20, 1981 letter, be extended to March 19, 1982.

Our letter further requested specific exemption from the implementation schedule of 10 CFR 50.48 and Appendix R.

Our commitment date was based upon estimates of scheduled outages and available manpower to perform the required engineering analysis.

Since the establishment of this commitment date, unforeseen forced outages have occurred resulting in a redirection of available manpower including design support.

The reallocation of resources i.-

has impacted the completion of the engineering analysis required to supply the information needed in the submittal by March 19, 1982.

Consequently, an exemption is requested, pursuant to 10 CFR Port 50.12, from the requirements of 10 CFR Part 50.48 to allow the extension of the date established in our letter of March 19, 1981 for submitting design information related to the implementation schedule of 10 CFR 50.48 (and Appendix R) and Enclosure 2 of the NRC February 20, 1981 letter from March 19, 1982 to July 1, 1982 for Units 1 and 2 of the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant.

If you have any questions in this regard, please contact this office.

Sincerely yours, b

' J. T. Beckham, J.
