FOR THE AUXILIARY FEEDWATER SYSTEM (TAC 65436)

On May 29, 1987, the licensee requested relief until the next Unit 2 refueling

outage (scheduled for spring 1989) from the requirements of Article IWC-2510 that a small portion of the auxiliary feedwater (AFW) system be hydrostatically tested as it was unisolable from the No. 22 steam generator.

The Materials Engineering 3 ranch (EMTB) was requested to review this relief to make a final determination of acceptability. However, this review was never completed by EMTB.

As Unit 2 shutdown in March 1989 to commence its Cycle 9 refueling outage, this interim relief expired.

The licensee is currently required to hydrosfatically test this portion of the AFW system in accordance with IWC-2510 of the 1933 Edition of the ASME Code, as was reiterated by the licensee in its subsequent March 22, 1989 submittal.

As the interim relief 1) was fully documented 2) authorized by law and 3) has expired as the relief ns only requested and authorized until the current Unit 2 refueling outage, this memorandum constitutes the closeout of this licensing action, 900119 D y A
