COMPLETION OF THE REVIEW 0F THE LICENSEE'S PROGRAM TO MEET IEB 85-03 FOR CALVERT CLIFFS Raltimore Gas and Electric Company's letter of May 15, 1986, pertaining to Calvert Cliffs, contained their response to IFB 85-03, " Motor-Operated Valve Conrnon Mode Failures During Plant Transients Due to Improper Switch Settings."
The review of this response led to the issuance of a reauest for additional information on July 29, 1987, and a response by the licensee on September 1,.
1987 Review of this additional infomation indicates that the licensee's selection of the applicable safety-related valves, the valves' maximum differ-ential pressures and the licensee's program to assure valve operability re-quested by action item e. of the bulletin is now acceptable.
Therefore, in accordance with Section 04.01 of IE Manual Temporary Instruction 2515/73, " Inspection Requirements for IE Bulletin 85-03, ' Motor-Operated Valve Common Mode Failures During Plant Transients Due to Improper Switch Settings',"
it is requested that you inform the licensee of the completion of this review in an inspection report. A feeder report describing the review activities and I
conclusions is attached for your use in preparing the inspection report.
Finally, it is requested that Richard J. Kiessel, of my staff, and the appro-priate NRR project manager be provided a copy of your inspection report.

Review of these responses indicated the need for additional information which was contained in Region I letter dated July 29, 1987 i
Review of the licensee's September 1,1987, response to this request for additional information indicates that the licensee's selection of the applica-ble safety-related valves to be addressed and the valves' maximum differential pressures meets the requirements of the bulletin and that the program to assure j
valve operability requested by action item e. of the bulletin is now I
acceptable.
The results of the inspections to verify proper implementation of this program and the review of the final response required by action item f. of the bulletin will be addressed in additional inspection reports.
