APPLICANTS' MOTION TO FILE SUPPLEMENTAL TESTIMONY IN RESPONSE TO EDDLEMAN ,

CONTENTIONS 9G (TYPE TEST REPORTING)

AND 116 (FIRE PROTECTION) ,

On August 9, 1984, Applicants filed their testimony and ,

exhibits in response to Eddleman Contention 116, concerning fire protection. On August 31, 1984, Applicants filed their testimony and exhibit in response to Eddleman Contention 9, concerning environmental qualification of electrical equipment.

The testimony and exhibits will be offered into evidence at the hearings on safety contentions scheduled to begin on October 16, 1984.

Pursuant to the continuing obligation of Applicants and their counsel to keep the Licensing Board and the other parties

informed of new information relevant and material to the gOgfoh

4 flects a change in the method by which Applicants will demon-

! strate the environmental qualification of Class lE coaxial and 5 triaxial Rockbestos cable to be installed in the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant ("SHNPP"). The supplemental testimony also t

! identifies two additional types of Class lE Rockbestos cable ,

used at the SHNPP, and describes how Applicants will demon-strate environmental qualification of these cables.

4 5 The supplemental testimony in response to Eddleman 116 re-

flects certain changes to Applicants' Fire Hazards Analysis which have been made since August 9, 1984. These changes are the result of the availability of more specific information on ,

the calorific values of the cable installation used in the SHNPP, as well as plant design changes related to cable tray loading and smoke removal. By letter dated October 10, 1984 from S. R. Zimmerman,~ Manager, Nuclear Licensing Section, Carolina Power & Light Company, to Har~old R. Denton, Director, NRR, copies of which were served on the Licensing Board and the Intervenors, Applicants provided a draft of revised pages of the SHNPP Final Safety Analysis Report ("FSAR") Section 9.5.1 and Appendix 9.5A which contains handwritten revisions to ta-bles and to discussions concerning combustible. loading rnd smoke removal. (See Enclosure 3 to the letter.) A retyped version of FSAR Section 9.5.1 and Appendix 9.5A containing these revisions will be offered into evidence at the hearing.
