GE ECCS EVALUATION MODEL FOR SINGLE-LOOP OPERATION In November 1975, Boston Edison submitted an application for single-loop operation of the Pilgrim plant. The application included an ECCS performar.ca analysis for single-loop operation.

In May 1976, the Analysis Branch was asked to review the methods used for the ECCS analysis. We found the method as described on the Pilgrim docket unacceptable.

New calculations were requested from Pilgrim and a supplement to the proprietary GE evaluation l

model from GE. Pilgrim satisfied the request on June 24, 1976,.and now has sufficient information on the docket for a staff evaluation, provided the method used for the calculation is an approved evaluation model as required by the ECCS Acceptance Criteria.

i GE has repeatedly promised to submit the EM supplement, but failed to do

-so.

The latest promise was made in early October.

GE indicated then, that it will take them 2 weeks to prepare the supplement, and it will bc

in our hands at the last week of October. On October 27, Mr. Fuller infomed me that the supplement will not be forthcoming this year.

Based on Mr. Fuller's information, I have terminated further review work on this subject in AB.

I recommend you do the same. All applicants should be infomed of this decision and should be urged to impress on GE the importance of providing a supplement to the'GE ECCS evaluation model.
