5. BAI!!TENANCE l

ihe principal items of uechanical maintenance fer the month included replacing four rings of packing on each of plungers Hos.1 & 2 of charging pump No.1; processing three drums of RWDF evaporator bottoms; replacing the fittings on the hign pressure main coolant sample container; installing a new seat in the shut-off valve in the service water line to the sewage plant; installirq s 120 inch manameter for a containment vessel leak rate test; cleaning the RWDF evaporator hotwell solenoid operated dump valve; repairing a leak in the chemistqr lab sink; installing new sheaves and belts on the stack fan; replacing the cartridges in the filter in the boric acid recirculation line; cleaning and painting the yard area sump pump; greasing and lubricating the charging pumps; flushing the drain line from the RUDF gas compressor manifold to the RWDF sump; cleaning the check valve in the discharge line of the RUDF eump pump; preparing the reactor vessel head for making fuel subassembly changes; and preparing the containment vessel for a leak rate test.

The major items of electrical and instrument maintenance included repairing the chart speed adjustment on the nuclear instrwmentation power range recorder; calibrating the computer-indicator for radiation monitoring chinnel RIC-6; repairing the pulse height analyzer in the count room; making up a spare '- of detector cables for a nuclear instrumentation intermediate range channel; replaci..g the ion chm:ber in nuclear instrumentation power range channel B; leak testing the manometer installed for a containnent vessel leak rate test, installing four resistance thermometers in the containment vessel; leak testing all containment vessel penetrations; replacing the air regulator on the containment vessel pressure transmitter; repairing the filter paper drive in site monitor RIC-9; and repairing the liquid scintillation counter it.

6. CIGIISTnY The main coolant system chenistry was maintained for power operating conditions until July 25th. On July 15th the lithium was removed by demineralization to establish a low pH condition which was maintained for the remainder of the power run. On Ju3y 25th the hydrogen concentration was reduced to less than 5 cc/kg H2O in preparation for opening the main coolant system.

The degassed main coolant 15 minute beta-gamma activity increased from .-

0.714 uc/cc before start-up on July let to 5 22 ue/cc eight hours after bestnning-power operation. The activity remained at or above the latter values until July 15 when month.
