Omaha Public Power District l 444 South 16th Street Mall l Omaha. Nebraska 68102-2247 April 2, 1991 402/63&2000 j 91-EA-160 Mr. Brian Gorman Compliance Specialist Permits & Compliance Section Water Quality Division Nebraska Department of Environmental Control Call No. 98922 Lincoln, NE 68509-8922
Dear Mr. Gorman:
This letter and attached Noncompliance Report serve as notification for the pH excursion at the OPPD Fort Calhoun Station (002 chemical holding ponds) on March 31, 1991.
As previousl.y reported, the cause of the release was due to an error in valve alignment which directed the discharge out the high river level pipe rather than recirculating the waste water within chemical lagoons. With the exception of pH, analysis verified other permit limits were not exceeded; 8.4 mg/l TSS (3.66 kg,) and no detectable levels of oil and grease.
Initial observations and contact with M.U.D. did not suggest any noticeable
. adverse affects on aquatic life in the receiving stream.
If you have any questions concerning this report, please contact Dick Varner at 636-2304 or me directly at 636-2302.
Sincerely,
/ ZstY W. L. N al Manager - Environmental Affairs WLN/RRV/lsb Attachment 4 m 24 Emacymen w t,ngoccatumy 1
