Dear Mr. Ludwig:

Subject:

NPDES Outfall Bypass on October 22, 1983 This notification is reported pursuant to the NPDES Permit Number NE 0000418 for Outf all 3erial Number 002.

The bypass condition was due to the failure of two sump pumps which pump water treatment plant wastes from the service building sump to the l

chemical equalization and decantation holding basins (settling basins).

The sump collects wastes from the presedimentation and clarifier units and the sand and carbon filters located in the water treatment plant.

Since the sump pumps failed, the waste went out the sump overflow directly to the Missouri River. Details of the waste released during the bypass are as follows.
