NPDES Noncompliance Reports for the Fort Calhoun Station
Dear Mr. Ringenberg:
Please find enclosed NPDES Noncompliance Reports for the Fort Calhoun Station from samples taken on October 12,17,19, 20, 21, 23 and 25,1983.
Currently the District is in the process of repairing and modi fying the chemical equalization and decantation holding basins (settling basins) at the l
Fort Calhoun Station.
This is being done for the purpose of maintenance and improvement of the recircul ation and neutralization capabilities of the system.
Repairs on the piping system will involve the replacement of piping with fibercast pipe to prevent future corrosion.
The modifications will include new valves and valve arrangements.
This modification will improve retention l
of water plant discharges in one basin while recirculation / neutralization or releasing is occurring in the other.
Due to the current tie-in between the two settling basins and the requirement to keep one basin empty throughout the duration of the modification work, discharges without recirculation have become necessary.
Subsequent pH noncompliance problems have resulted and will continue until the repair and modification work is completed.
Work on the settling basins is scheduled for completion approximately four weeks from this date.
At that time, the frequent condition of pH noncompli-ance at the Fort Calhoun Station should cease.

,0ctober 27, 1983 Page 2 On October 26, 1983, Jack Quackenbush telephoned you about the possibility of submitting one letter upon completion of construction which would contain all the violations during the repair and modification time period rather than reporting each noncompliance.
This letter serves as the District's formal notification of our intention to report future noncompliances during the construction period in this manner.
We shall also keep you informed on the progress of the repair and modifi-cation work up to its completion.
If you require any further infomation or have any questions or comments on any of the above, please advise.
