S e routine inspections shall be documented on the "Fireshield Checksheet",

R-7.

c.

We annual inspections and/or replacement activities shall be documented on the

" Type B Packaging Maintenance / Inspection Checksheet", R-9, and recorded in the Cask PM Logbook.

d.

Routine inspections are performed prior to each assembly. Annual-inspections

s are performed prior to assembly,every twelve months, or prior to shipment, which,ever comes later, e.-

Plating defects shall not be cause for rejection of the bolt.

4.

Preparation l

a.

Iemove the bolts to be inspected and survey for radioactive contamination with an HP-210 probe.

b.

Bolts should be less than 100 cpn beta / gamma and less than 200 dpn alpha.

c.

Use wire brush to clean the bolt threads.

5.

Routine-Inspection a.

Visually inspect the bolts for:

1.)

Obvious damage / defects.

2.)

Proper identification as indicated by three embossed radial marks or "VNC-5" engraved on the bolt head.

Check (r appropriate item on the "Fireshield Checksheet", R-7, for accept-able bolts.

c.

.If bolts are not acceptable, record reason for non-acceptance on the Checksheet, initial entry, and obtain the replacement bolts from the Area Supervisor, d.

Verify proper bolt identification markings on the replacement bolt.

Discard any failed / reject non-contaminated bolt to the scrap metal bin. All e.

contaminated failed / reject bolts shall be discarded to radioactive waste.

6.

Annual Inspection

a..Use the " Type B Packaging Maintenance / Inspection Checksheet", R-9 to document the inspection.

1.) Proper identification as indicated by three embossed radial marks or "VNC-5" engraved on the bolt head.

i 3.) Damage to the bolt shank.

l-4.) Obvious excessive wear (> 0.050 in. thread diameter reduction ).

Annual Inspection (continued) c.

Initial the appropriate item on the Checksneet (R-9) for acceptable bolts.

l d.

If the bolts are not acceptable, record the reason for norr-acceptance on the

'I Checksheet (R-9), initial entry, and obtain replacement bolts frm the Area Supervisor.

e. ' Verify proper bolt identification markings on replacement bolt.

f.

Discard any failed / reject non-contaminated tx)lt to the scrap metal bin. All contaminated failed / reject bolts shall be discarded to radioactive waste.

7.

Doctsnentation a.

Return the completed Checksheet(s) to the Area Supervisor.

. b.

Record replacement and/or R-9 activities in the Cask PM Iogbook.

Initial and date the entry.

c.

%e Area Supervisor shall review and sign / initial the Checksheets and/or the Iogbook entries.

d.

Se "Firshield Checksheet", R-7, shall be filed in the custmer shipping file; the " Type B Packaging Maintenance / Inspection Checksheet", R 9 shall be filc<1 in the cask file.
