Procedure l

a.

mnitor the dose rate with an appropriate radiation detection instnanent, t

b.

Remove the cask lid using apsvgiate lif ting devices. Tne cask lid weignt is stamped in the cask Iid.

c.

Decontaminate the smearable activity to <10,000 cpn (total area) as determined with an HP-210 probe to pemit visual inspection without respiratory protection.

d.

Visually inspect the cask lid for cracked welds.

e.

Visually inspect the gasket sealing surfaces for damage or oefects that could adversely affect the gasket seal:

1.) Bent flange.

2.) Deep cuts across the flange seal area.

f.

Initial the appropriate item on the " Cask Snipping Checksheet", R-8, for acceptable cask lid.

9 If the cask lid is not acceptable, record the reason for non-acceptance on the Checksheet and initial the entry.

h.

If any damage is reported, notify the Area Supervisor.

i. 'Ihe Area Supervisor shall inspect '.he damage:

1.)

If damage is a weld failure, a Deviation )Wport (DR) shall be initiated.

j 2.)

If damage is to the sealing surface, the Area Supervisor shall initiate a DR for repair or schedule a leak check following RP&S SOP XVII I " Cask Cavity leak Check - Innersion".
