SUBJECT:

PERIODIC STATUS REPORTS.FOR TMI ACTION PLAN ITEMS

' d:

ak

~]

Periodic reports on the status of TMI Action Plan items (NUREG-0660) m.aed have been requested by Congress, the Commission and the Executive Director Q:/d for Operations.

For example,'a discussion of TMI Action Plan accomplish-ments and issues was included in the recent Mid-Year review of important

'7'

.f, agency programs 'for the Connission. The Office of Management and Program Analysis (MPA) has the responsibility for assembling this information for

~

1 the NRC. Within NRR, the Division of Safety Technology has been charged.

with the responsibility for monitoring the technical progress of each item assigned to NRR. Thus, a single location within NRR will maintain a record of.the status of.each.. item ant provide a periodic assessment of 3.Gf the overall program.. cThis will also be a source for input for our Program ---

f.'d'd Support staff. The Responsible Individuals assigned to each. action plan 9,,

item in NRR will still be the source for detailed and current information regarding individual items.-

.2 The Generic Issues Branch (.GIB) has been assigned to monitor these activ-ml ities for DST..Nembers of the GIB have met with representatives from MPA--

to discuss the information needs for both groups. To obtain the inf.orma-

~

tion required by both groups, we believe that the most e"xpeditious,.arr.ange.

ment would be for the Responsible Individuals to_prov.ide the GIB a brief -

discussion of each. item on a periodic basi,s.
