8 NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION a

5 E

WASHINGTON, D. C. 20665 August 29, 1980 Docket No. 50-336 Mr.'W. G. Counsil -Vice President' Nuclear Engineering & Operations Northeast Nuclear Energy Conpany P. O. Box 270 l

Hartford, Connecticut 06101

Dear Mr. Counsfl:

SUBJECT:

Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment This letter transmits an Order which requires information to support the environmental qualification of safety related electrical equipment at Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 2.

The Commission's Memorandum and Order of May 23, 1980 addresses safety related electrical equipment exposed to a harsh environment, inside or outside containment, resulting from an accident.

The Order requires l

that all such equipment in operating reactors be fully qualified by l

June 30, 1982.

To complete this objective, you are required to submit, by November 1, 1980, all information to support a safety evaluation of the aforemen-tioned equipment.

If your facility had an established commitment date before November 1,1980, it is fully expected that your submittal will be not later than that commitment date.

If your facility's conmitment date is past without a complete submittal, it is strongly recommended that actions be expedited since they have already impacted the staff review schedule.

Briefings were held with all. interested licensees during the week of i

July 17,1980.

Enforcement actions relative to this Order were dis-cussed during these briefings, Sincerely, Robert A. Clark, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #3 Division of Licensing
