Operating Reactors Assessment Branch Division of Licensing John A. Zwolinski, Section L a'der Operating Reactors Assessmen ranch Division of Licensing Rudy Karsch, Lead Project Manager for Equipment Qualification, MPA B-60 Operating Reactors Assessment Branch Division of Licensing EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION PROGRAM STATUS REPORT, ONE llEEK PERIOD llEEK ENDING APRIL 20, 1984 The Equipment Qualification Review Meetings f'r compliance to 10 CFR 50.49 (the EQ Rule) were held for Ginna, Vermont Yankee and Indian Point 2 on April 17, 18 and 19 respectively.

The licensees'urveillance inspection and preventative maintenance

programs, as they pertain to EQ, were reviewed.

Procedures for screening IE Bulletins, Notices and Circulars by the licensee for any EQ related impact was also discussed.

Ginna - This plant is presently shutdown for refueling.

Upon restart they will be in compliance with the rule except for two items (RTDs and valves) which may not get installed at this outage.

If they are not replaced an extension request and JCOs will be submitted.

All other J.C.O.s will clear prior to restart.

Vermont Yankee - All EQ related work is expected to be completed during the refueling outage scheduled for June.

No extensions are anticipated and all outstanding J.C.O.s will clear prior to restart.

On April ll, 1984 the licensee notified the NRC that new calculations disclose a

more severe post accident HELB environment than previously considered.

The new data and post HELB environmental profile was given to ASB (Ridgley) for review.

In response ASR gave the licensee an information sheet detailing the kinds of information necessary for confirmation of their analysis.

ASB will notify EQB if it is determined that the testing conducted to the new post accident environmental conditions is invalid because the environmental envelope is incorrect.

l APR S S >S84 Indian Point 2 - Following restart from a June 1984 refueling outage this plant is expected to be in compliance with the E.g. rule.

Extension requests might be needed for several items now undergoing testing.

These tests include; sealing cable connectors for high range radiation monitors, testing of cables and main steam flow instrumentation.

All outstanding open items identified by the FRC TER were discussed with the licensees and successfully resolved.

The remaining issues identified should not jeopardize timely completion of the Eg program.

The Point Beach SER received from E(B last week has completed its DL review.

When all 'comments are consolidated a meeting will be held between all concerned to discuss how the SER can be improved.

A meeting date has not been set at this time.

A schedule/status list, and lists of attendees at the three meetings is attached.
