WISCONSIN 53706 April 21, 1980 Jona L. Souder, Chief Local Public Document Room Branch Division of Rules and Records Office of Administration Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 I would like to enquire about the possibility of this library becoming a designated Local Public Document Rocm for any or all of the nuclear power plants in Wisconsin.

There are several LPDRs in Wisconsin, but some are located at quite a distance from Madison, the state capital.

Since Madison is the home of our state government, most of the legislative and regulatory activities related to the licensing and operation of power plants is conducted here. In addition, there are citizens' groups here with strong interest in having access to the docket materials. This information is also valuable to the students and faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, specifically persons f rom the Nuclear Engineering Department of the College of Engineering.

Do you have a policy of designating caly one LPDR per plant or are you willing to consider additional sites if there is sufficient interest? I understand that the docket materials are now, or soon will be, available on microfiche. This library has an excellent microforms facility; we have the capability of making paper prints from microfiche and making duplicate microfiche. To encourage the use of microforms, we also have portable microfiche readers which can be checked out of the library.

Please cor. sider tt request. If necessary, we would be willing to accept materials on just a few of 1 plants, rather than all of them. Point Beach is the plant which appears to be of most interest to our patrons. We would be very pleased to

  • become 'n additional LPDR for that plant in particular.

Thank you for your assistance.
