UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION II 245 PEACHTREE CENTER AVENUE NE, SUITE 1200 ATLANTA, GEORGIA 30303-1257 April 9, 2019 Tom Vehec Southern Nuclear Operating Co., Inc.

Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant 11028 Hatch Parkway North Baxley, GA 31513

SUBJECT:

CONFIRMATION OF REQUESTED INITIAL OPERATOR LICENSE EXAMINATIONS FOR EDWIN I. HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT

Dear Mr. Vehec:

In an email between Mr. John Campbell, Operations Training Manager, and Mr. Gerald McCoy, Chief Operations Branch 1, on March 7, 2019, your staff requested a change to the previously scheduled dates for initial operator license examinations for the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plants.

Based on your email, previous Regulatory Issue Summary responses, and requests received from other Region II facilities, we have scheduled the requested examinations as follows:

2020 2021 Plant / Station Week of Applicants Week of Applicants Edwin I. Hatch N/A N/A 3/1 18 Scheduled dates for examinations that were requested beyond calendar year 2021 will be communicated separately.

On-site validation of the examinations is typically scheduled to occur with approximately four weeks between the validation week and the examination. If you have a need to change the dates of your scheduled exams from those listed above, please inform us in writing of your request and the reason for the change. Due to the large number of examinations scheduled to be administered at Region II sites, requests to change examination dates will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We will confirm any change in examination schedule with a follow-up letter.

We understand that your staff will develop the proposed examinations. For examinations that have greater than nine applicants, each examination is scheduled for a minimum of two weeks.

If the number of applicants is reduced to less than ten (10), please inform us as this will impact the examination schedule.

T. Vehec 2 A supplementary letter will be sent to each stations training department director approximately 210 days prior to the initial examination. The letter will provide the director with the chief examiners name, an outline of examination security expectations, a list of the materials required by the NRC to conduct the examination, and it will reconfirm the examination dates. If you have any questions concerning this information, please contact Mr. Gerald J. McCoy, Chief, Operations Branch I, at 404-997-4551.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, and your response (if any), will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the Electronic Reading Room page of the NRCs public Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.

Sincerely,

/RA/
