The purpose of this letter is to provide the NRC with a status update on the South Carolina Public Service Authority's (Santee Cooper's) position with respect to SCE&G's December 27, 2017 request to terminate the VCSNS Unit 2 & 3 COLs. Today, Monday July 23, 2018, the Santee Cooper's Board of Directors held a special meeting to further consider and discuss the issue of the termination of the COL.
When the Board resolved to suspend construction of VCSNS Unit 2 & 3, on July 31, 2017, it authorized management to pre*serve the site and components for a period of one year or until July 31, 2018. At today's meeting the Board adopted a resolution to continue such site and high-valued component preservation until December 31, 2018. In addition, the Board declared that the components and equipment at the VCSNS Units 2 & 3 site are surplus and authorized the Interim President and CEO to undertake efforts to sell the components and equipment to interested purchasers.
At today's meeting the Board was not asked to take any action with regard to the termination of the VCSNS Units 2 & 3 COLs. That issue is expected to be resolved by the Board at its next meeting currently scheduled for August 20, 2018. Senior Santee Cooper management is committed to recommending to the Board at that meeting that the VCSNS Units 2 & 3 COLs be terminated.
