DOP 1600-15 Revision 3 December 28, 1979

. *-posT..:;:ACCIDENT'"VENTING-'OF'THE' PRIMA.RY "CONTAINMENT A*... PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to outline the method of venting the primary containment after an accident.

Atmosphere and Reactor Water.

C. PREREQUISITES

1. Prior to venting the containment, an atmospheric sample will be obtained by the Radiation Protection Department. 'nlis sample will be in effect for 8 hours9.259259e-5 days
0.00222 hours
1.322751e-5 weeks
3.044e-6 months
unless a scram, a significant change in continuous air monitor reading, or other occurence which could alter drywell activity occurs (see REF. 2).
2. Obtain the Station Superintendent's or.his designated representa-tive's approval prior to venting.
3. Drywell pressure less than 2 psig.
4. Reactor water level above the low level scram point.
5. The Group I I Isolation has been reset by placing all Group II Valve Two-Position Selector Switches to the "CLOSE" position (see Table 1 for list of these valves) and op~rating the Reset Switch.

D. PRECAUTIONS

1. Ensure that the drywell pressure. is greater than or equal to torus pressure to pr~vent cycling of the torus-to-drywell vacuum breakers.

If radioactive materials h~ve accumulated on the SGTS filters 3

C. . during operation, radioactive decay will cause internal heat-ing of the filters. If heating is sufficient to require cooling, START the opposite train and draw air through the affected train from the turbine building, via the train cross-connect.

3. In the event that the containment vessel must be vented after an accident, extreme care must be taken in order~~o keep the total radioactive release to the atmosphere less than the limits prescribed in the GSEP Manual. . .
4. Insure all releases are properly documented for further study.

E. LIMITATIONS AND ACTIONS

1. Do NOT VENT the containment.through SBGT unless the drywell sample is less than:
a. Iodine 131 6.3 x 10-S uc/cc
b. Beta - gamma 2.1 x 10-5 uc/cc or The limits specified by th~ Rad-Chem Supervisor.
F
 • PROCEDURE
1. VERIFY turbine building fans ON for chimney dilution.
2. Ensure Standby Gas Treatment System is in operation.
3. OPEN the 2 inch vent AO 1601-62 and A0.1601-63 from the drywell to the Standby Gas Treatment System.
4. Mark the chimney radiation monitor to indicate the start and stop of the release. -
5. . Carefully log:
a. Date and type of venting.
b. Pressure of containment vessel at the start of venting.
c. Pressure of containment vess_el at the end of venting.
d. Length of time containment vessel was vented.
e. Results of samples.
f. Operator's name.

6. After venti~g is complete, do the following:

(-~*' a. CLOSE AO 1601-62 and AO 1601-63.

b. STOP the Standby Gas Treatment System, or PLACE it into Cooling mode, if necessary. I
7. Post-operation check.

a.. .VERIFY:

(1) One SGTS Train Mode Switch is in the PRIMARY position and the other SGTS Train Mode Switch is in the STANDBY position.

(2) All alarms concerning the SGTS have reset.

b. If a high temperature condition exists after operation of a SGTS train,. PLACE the affected train into a cooldown.

G. CHECKLISTS None.
