SUBJECT:

SUMMARY OF JUNE 5, 2014, CONFERENCE CALL TO DISCUSS THE STATUS OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION REVIEW OF THE DIABLO CANYON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2

Dear Mr. Halpin:

On June 5, 2014, staff members from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or staff) and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) held a conference call to discuss NRC's letter dated May 2, 2014, which can be found in the (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under (ADAMS Accession No. ML14121A259), and PG&E's response dated June 4, 2014 (ADAMS Accession No. ML14155A231). The participants of the conference call are listed in the enclosure.

In NRC's May 2, 2014, letter, NRC identified additional safety and env ironmental information necessary for the staff to plan and manage the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2 (DCPP) license renewal review, and requested PG&E provide a schedule as to when the information would be submitted. PG&E's June 4, 2014, response letter stated that PG&E would evaluate NRC's request for additional information and will address the request, to the extent possible, in the December 2014 license renewal annual update. Additionally, PG&E will discuss with the NRC, a schedule for providing the remaining information.

During the conference call, the participants agreed on the following four main points:

1. NRC considers the June 4, 2014, letter a request to put the application on hold until December 2014. 2. In December 2014, NRC expects to receive a schedule for obtaining the DCPP Coastal Zone Management Act consistency certification, including any impacts this schedule would have on the safety or environmental reviews. 3. In December 2014, NRC expects to receive the information necessary to complete the safety review, or a detailed schedule for when the information will be provided. 4. In December 2014, NRC expects to receive the information necessary to complete the environmental review, or a detailed schedule for when the information will be provided.

Please notify the NRC, at the earliest opportunity, if there will be changes to the above schedule for submitting the requested schedule or information.
