Dear Commissioners and Staff:

By Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) Letter DCL-11-047, "Request for Deferral of Diablo Canyon Power Plant Renewed Operating Licenses," dated April 10, 2011, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS]

Accession No. ML111010592), and counsel's letter of April12, 2011 (ADAMS Accession No. ML111020618), PG&E requested that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) defer issuance of the renewed operating licenses until PG&E completed advanced seismic studies recommended by the California Energy Commission. By NRC letter dated May 31, 2011 (ADAMS Accession No.

ML11138A315), the NRC indicated that it would issue the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) in June 2011 and delay other license renewal review items. The NRC also indicated that it would supplement the SER, as necessary, considering any relevant new information from the seismic studies, operating experience, and annual updates to the License Renewal Application (LRA).

By NRC letter dated May 2, 2014 (ADAMS Accession No. ML14121A259), the NRC stated that NRC staff will need additional information related to both the safety and environmental review of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant LRA in order to complete its review. Following completion of the seismic report, PG&E will complete its internal decision making process for moving ahead with license renewal. PG&E will evaluate the NRC's request for additional information and address the request to the extent possible in the December 2014 license renewal annual update. PG&E will discuss with the NRC staff a schedule for providing any additional information not provided in the December 2014 update and any further information the NRC staff requires to proceed with the review.

PG&E makes no regulatory commitments (as defined by NEI 99-04) in this letter.

This letter includes no revisions to existing regulatory commitments.
