2.0INTRODUCTION

Theobjectiveoftheperiodicintegratedleakratetestwastheverificationoftheoverallleaktightnessofthereactorcontainmentbuildingataninternalpressureof35psig.Theallowableleakageisdefinedbysafetyanalysesandinaccordancewiththesiteexposureguidelinesspecifiedby10CFR100.For'.E.GinnaNuclearPowerPlant,themaximumallowableintegratedleakagerateatapressureof35psig(Pt)is0.1528percentbyweightperday(Lt).TestingwasperformedinaccordancewiththeproceduralrequirementsasstatedinR.E.GinnaNuclearPowerPlantContainmentIntegratedLeakRateTestProceduresRSSP-6.0,6.1,6.2and6.3.TheseprocedureswerereviewedbythePlantOperationsReviewCommitteeandapprovedbythePlantSuperintendentpriortothecommencementofthetest.Leakageratetestingwasaccomplishedatthepressureof36.032psigforaperiodof24hours,followedbya4hoursupplementaltestforaverificationoftestinstrumentation.lPage5

6.0TESTPERFORMANCE6.1PREREQUXSITESiPriortocommencementof-reactorcontainmentbuildingpressurization,thefollowingbasicprerequisiteswere.satisfied:a~b.cd.e.-gih.Properoperationofalltestinstrumentationwasverified.Allautomaticcontainmentbuildingisolationvalveswereclosedbyamanualcontainmentisolationsignalwithoutanypreliminaryexercisingoradjustment.Equipmentwithinthereactorcontainmentbuilding,subjectto=-damage,wasprotectedfromexternaldifferentialpressures.Portionsoffluidsystemswhich,underpost-accidentconditionsbecomeextensionsofthecontainmentboundary,weredrainedandvented.Thepenetrationpressurizationsystem'asdepressurizedandisolatedwithtestgaugesinstalledtodetectanyleakage.Pressuregaugeswereprovidedonthefollowingsystemstoprovideameansofdetectionforleakageintothesesystems:1.PersonnelAccessHatch'.EquipmentAccessHatchContainmentrecirculationfanswereoperationalPotentialpressuresourceswereremovedorisolatedfromthecontainment.Ageneralinspectionoftheaccessibleinteriorandexteriorareasofthecontainmentwascompleted.6.2PRESSURIZATIONPHASEDuringtheentireILRTperiod,datawascollectedandrecordedelectronicallyatfifteenminuteintervalsviathecomputer.(SeeAppendicesB-G.)Followingthesatisfactionoftheprerequisites,pressurizationofthereactorbuildingcontainmentwasstartedonMay15,1989at03:08Buildingpressureandtemperatureweremonitoredcontinuouslythroughoutthepressurizationstage.Thepressurizationratewasapproximately5.0psiperhour.Duringpressurization,adecreaseinpressurizerwaterlevelwasobserved.Waterlevelwasmaintainedthroughrefillingthepressurizerasneeded.Whencontainmentinternalpressurereached36.632at13:30onMay15,1989,pressurizationwassecured.At18:30onMay15,1989,thecontainmentstabilizationcriteriahadbeenmet.ThePressurizerlevelwasstablewiththeabsenceofaddingpressure.Page14 8.0DISCUSSIONOFRESULTSTheILRTdataandcalculatedleakageratesarepresentedasreportsandplotsinAppendicesBthroughG.ThesereportsandplotsillustrateanILRTthatwasperformeduninterruptedandwithoutperturbation.TheTypeAcontainmentmassandmasspointleakagerateplotshowsthattheleakagerateremainedessentiallyconstantfortheentiretestperioddata.8.1TYPEARESULTSThemethodusedincalculatingthemasspointleakagerateisdefinedinSection7.0.Theresultofthiscalculationisamasspointleakagerateof0.044594/day.The95%UCLassociatedwiththisleakagerateis0.04631%/day.Inaddition,thelocalleakagerateoftheinstrumentationvalveswhichwereinserviceduringtheILRTwerealsoconsideredbuthadnoleakage.Thecalculatedleakagerateandthecalculatedleakagerateattheupperboundofthe95%UCLarewellbelowtheacceptancecriteriaof0.1146percentperday(0.75Lt).Therefore,reactorcontainmentbuildingleakageat35psig(Pt)isconsideredacceptable.8.2SUPPLEMENTALTESTRESULTSAfterconclusionofthe24hourtestat35psig,ThermalMassFlowmeterFI-2Awasplacedinserviceandaflowrate,of3.6SCFMwasestablished.Thisflowrateisequivalenttoaleakagerateof0.1562percentperday.Thecalculatedleakagerate(Lc)duringthesupplementaltest=wascalculatedtobe0.1988percentperdayusingthemasspointmethodofanalysis.Thebuildingleakagerateduringthesupplementaltestisthendeterminedasfollows:Ltm'=Lc-LoLtm'=0.1988%/day-0.1562%/dayLtm'=0.0426%/dayPage17 ATESTPROGRAMSUMMARY'heTypeATestisanintegratedleakageratetest(ILRT)designedtoverifytheleaktestintegrityoftheentirecontainmentbuilding.Thistestisperformedatapproximatelythree-yearintervalsasrequiredbyAppendixJof10CFR50.ItisperformedinaccordancewiththeAmericanNationalStandard"ContainmentSystemLeakageTestingRequirements,"(ANSI/ANS-56.8-1987),AmericanNationalStandard"LeakageRateTestingofPrimaryContainmentforNuclearPowerPlants,"(ANSIN45.4-1972),andtheBechtelTopicalReport"TestingCriteriaforIntegratedLeakageRateTestingofNuclearPowerPlants,"(BN-TOP-1,Rev.1-1972).TheATESTprogramcomputestotaltimeleakagerates,masspointleakagerates,LSFleakagerates,and95%upperconfidencelevel(UCL)leakageratesduringthecourseofthetestfrominputmeasuredvaluesofcontainmentpressure,temperatureanddewpoint.TheATESTprogramisalsocapableofperformingtheverificationphaseandwillgeneratespecificverificationsfeaturestoaidinverifyingtheTypeAtest.Theprogramisdesignedtoautomatethetaskofsamplingandreducingthedatatoausableforminaccordancewiththeabovedocuments.Thisgreatlylimitsthepossibilityofhumanerrorandprovidesintermediateresultsafterashortdelay.Thismakespossibletomonitortheprogressofthetestverycloselyinapproximatelyrealtime.Foreachofthetwotestperiods,theATESTprogramsamplesthecontainment'senvironmentandcalculatesthevaluesneededtoassessthestatusofthetest.Interimresultsareprovidedasdesiredandtheprogramcheckstoseeiftheacceptancecriteriahavebeensatisfiedforthetwotestperiods.Theprogramalsoproducesaprintoutofalldatagatheredaswellasarecordofitscalculations.Inaddition,thedataisstoredon'hardorfloppycomputerdisksforfuturereference.Theprogramcanrecoverfromapowerfailureoranyotheraccidentalinterruptionsoftheprogram'sexecutionbyreloadingtheolddataandrestartingthedatasamplingroutineattheproperlocation.Lastly,shouldoneoftheRTDsfailduringthetest,theprogramwilldetecttheproblemandtheusercanremovethatsensorfromfurthercalculations.Whenthetestiscompleted,theprogramhastheabilitytorecalculateallvaluesforthetest,suppressinganyfailedsensorsorinstrumentsfromtheentireseriesofcalculations.ATESTiswritteninahighlevellanguage(QuickBASIC)andisdesignedforuseonamicro-computerwithdirectdatainputfromthedataacquisitionsystem.Briefdescriptionsofprogramuse,formulaeusedforleakageratecomputations,andprogramlogicareprovidedinthefollowingsections.
