AttachmenttoLER79-012/01T-0RochesterGasandElectricCorporationR.E.GinnaNuclearPowerPlant,UnitNo.1DocketNo.50-244Duringtheannualrefuelingmaintenanceshutdown,inserviceinspec-tionwasconductedonpipesupportanchorbolts.Sixsuchinstallationsinsidecontainmentwereobservednotbuiltinaccordancewithdrawings.DataonthesesupportswasreportedtotheEngineeringDepartmentonMarch26,1979.Theevaluationofthedataonfourofthesupports(RH-21,RH-22,RH-32,RH-33)resultedintheconclusionthattheyrequiredcorrec-tiontoassurethecapabilitytoperformtheirintendedfunction.Theevalu-ationoftheothertwosupports(CH-9andCH-10)showedthattheexistinginstallationsareadequatetoassureperformanceoftheirintendedfunctions.OnMarch27theEngineeringDepartmentwasrequestedtodetermineadditionalsupportsforinspectiontoassurethatthediscrepanciesfoundonRH-21,22,32and33werelimitedtothem.Over500pipesupportdrawingswerethenreviewed.TheresultsofthisreviewshowedthattherewerenootherSeismicCategoryIsupportsofsimilardesign.Consequently,sixadditionalsupportsoutsidecontainmentofvariousdesignscontaininganchorboltswereselectedatrandomforinspection.Thesesupportswerelocatedonseveralsafetyrelatedsystemsinvariouslocationsthroughouttheplant.Theevaluationoftheinspectionresults(NCR'sG-79-38throughG-79-43)forthesesupportsshowsthatalltheexistinginstallationsareadequatetoassureperformanceoftheirintendedfunctions.ItwasconcludedthatthediscrepanciesfoundonRH-21,22,32and33wereuniquetothosesupports.Itisbelievedthattheywerecausedbythefieldconditionsrelativetothespecificlocationofthesesupports.Correctionofthesesupportswasjudgedtobethemostprudentandconserv-ativeapproachbasedonthenatureofthediscrepanciesandtheintendedfunctionofthesupports.Thedrawingdiscrepanciesfoundontheremainingsupports,bothinsideandoutsidecontainment,werejudgedtobeofminimalconsequence,andinallcasesitwasdeterminedthatthesupportsmettheirintendeddesignfunction.FurtheractioninthisareaisplannedinresponsetoIEBulletin79-02,PipeSupportBasePlateDesignsusingConcreteExpansionAnchorBolts.
