THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION EXTENSION OF THE GLOBAL LASER ENRICHMENT INTERIM AUTHORITY TO OPERATE TILL JUNE 1, 2023 (ENTERPRISE PROJECT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER L-2021-LLL-0019)

Dear Pat Jenny:

By letter (GLE-2022-057) dated October 6, 2022 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession Number ML22285A215), Global Laser Enrichment, LLC (GLE) requested that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) extend the Interim Authorization to Operate (IATO) for the GLE classified system. The current IATO was issued via email dated April 28, 2022, (ML22118A850) which authorized the systems till November 1, 2022. The IATO also imposed a number of Plan of Action & Milestones which GLE has implemented.

After reviewing the information provided, the NRC staff believes that the risk to operations, assets, or individuals resulting from the continued operation of the system throughout a 6-month extension of the current IATO is acceptable, contingent on compliance with the general and specific conditions provided in the enclosures.

Based on our review, the NRC staff has determined the IATO is extended to June 1, 2023. provides the Authorizing Official approval of the IATO with the supporting conditions, which was approved via email dated October 26, 2022. Enclosure 2 provides the NRC staffs authorization assessment report, which provides the basis for approval.

The NRC staff estimates that completing the review of your submittal required approximately 5 staff hours which corresponds to about $1,450.00 assuming $290/hr. We will promptly communicate any significant change in the schedule.

This letter concludes work on the IATO extension request (GLE-2022-057). The Enterprise Project Identification Number L-2021-LLL-0019 will remain open to support future authorizing official related activities.
