Dear Sir:

In the Matter of ) Docket Nos. 50-259 Tennessee Valley Authority ) 50-260 50-296 BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) - REPLY TO ADMINISTRATIVE LETTER (AL) 99-03 PREPARATION AND SCHEDULING OF OPERATOR LICENSING EXAMINATIONS This letter responds to NRC AL 99-03, dated August 3, 1999. In AL 99-03, NRC requested specific information related to:

(A) proposed examination preparation schedule for the number of examinations that BFN intends to prepare during calendar years (CY) 2000-2003, (B) schedule for initial operator license examinations, including the number of applicants to be tested and the proposed primary and alternate dates of the examinations, and (C) proposed generic fundamentals examination (GFE) schedule, including the number of candidates that plan to take the GFE in CY 2000 and 2001.

Although the latest amendment to 10 CFR 55, Operator Licenses, allows licensees to select who will prepare, proctor, and grade written examinations required by 10 CFR 55.41 and 55.43, BFN plans not to prepare the operator examinations scheduled to be administered at BFN during calendar years 2000 through 2003.

Enclosed is a completed NRC FORM 536, Operator Licensing Examination Data, which provides BFN's current schedules for the specific information requested in AL 99-03.
