UNSCHEDULED PLANT SHUTDOWN Event The licensee completed the cycle 10 refueling outage on Thursday, June 18, 1987 by-phasing on to the grid at 11:10 a.m. Power escalation continued until Monday, June 22 reaching approximately seventy percent. During power escalation the main turbine / generator number five radial bearing was noted to have higher than expected vibrations. The vibrations exceeded the licensee's criteria of .10 mils and a power reduction'was initiated. Since the bearing's vibrations remained erratic the plant. ,

was shut down on Tuesday, June 23. The licensee estimates the shutdown will be a '

minimum of three days.

The State of Maine has been notified.
