SUMMARY

OF JULY 31,1997 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held an interface meeting with Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc. (Southern Nuclear) on July 31,1997, at Southern Nuclear's headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss plant status, major problems, and other topics at the Farley, Hatch, and Vogtle nuclear plants. In addition, NRC topics of discussion included the employee concerns program, self-assessment, and fitness for duty.- It is our opinion that the meeting was beneficial and provided a good review of current plant issues.

Enclosed is a list of attendees and presentation handouts.

In accordance with Section 2.790 of NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10 of the Code of Enderal Regulations, a copy of this meeting summary and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
