Dear Congresswoman Lowey:

I want to thank you for the opportunity to meet with you on October 28, 2003, to discuss the status of activities at the Indian Point Energy Center (IPEC). The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the safety and security concerns that you have raised concerning IPEC and to discuss plant security issues that can not be addressed in unclassified correspondence.

Among the topics discussed at the October 28t' meeting was the security of spent fuel pools at IPEC. I believe that my responses at that meeting addressed the concerns expressed in your August 20, 2003 letter.

I appreciate your input and want to assure you that the NRC is committed to protecting the health and safety of the public surrounding Indian Point. Please contact me with any further questions or concerns.
