Dear The Nuclear Regulatory Commission,

The New York State House, The New York State Senate, and Governor Andrew Cuomo, We are pleased to present you with this petition affirming this statement:

"We, residents of the Hudson Valley and the metropolitan New York and New Jersey areas, are demanding that the licensing renewals for the Indian Point nuclear power plant for 2013 and 2015 be denied, and that the plant is closed down as soon as possible. Studies have shown that with upgrades in the New York State power grid, with energy efficiency and conservation measures, and investment in renewable sources, Indian Point's capacity can be replaced with minimal cost to consumers."

Attached is a list of individuals who have added their names to this petition, as well as additional comments written by the petition signers themselves.

Sincerely, Renee & Jordan kalfus 1

I ride with an ambulance corps that covers the TZ Bridge, if we have difficulty getting to the scene of an accident with lights and sirens, what chance does a family have getting across in a car during a nuclear accident??? NRC members--Put yourself and your family in the middle of the TZB during a nuclear accident--THINK ABOUT IT!!! Use renewable power sources & retrain the IPNP employees to work the new energy plant.

It never made sense to me to put a nuclear power plant where many millions of people could never evacuate in time. But then it never made sense to me to produce waste that we had and still have no viable way to dispose of. This plant can be shut down with no one to mourn its passing.

The NY State Assembly has determined we don't need it. Indian Point is located near two earthquake faults. In addition to returning billions of gallons of superheated water to the Hudson River and killing billions of fish, this plant is violating the Clean Water Act and has been operating without a required state water permit for several years. It has overcrowded spent fuel pools, operating without temp gauges or any protection from terrorists or the elements. It has corroded underground pipes. It leaks tritium and vents radioactive steam regularly to control the temperature of the reactors. As of September one reactor will be operating without a license--a first in the history of U.S. nuclear energy.

Leukemia and thyroid cancer rates are elevated around the plant. Indian Point is located within 26 miles of Manhattan and the residents of three states would be affected should there be a station blackout and the loss of the ultimate heatsink. There is no plausible evacuation plan, and the recommendation to shelter in place for two weeks is totally unacceptable. I have been protesting these nuclear reactors for 36 years and demand that Indian Point be decommissioned and that its employees be re-hired to decommission the plant as soon as possible.

White Plains, NY 10601 Jun 4, 2013 The evacuation plan is simply not workable for this area, which is a patchwork of narrow, often steep, single lane roads. Even the mending of the bridge on 9D last summer caused massive tailbacks. An evacuation would quickly become a bottle-neck of desperate people in a logjam traffic.

Also, what defense do we have if this site is attacked like the World Trade Center? There have also been many incidents/accidents that have already occurred here. For these reasons and many more, we must ask that this facility be shut down as soon as possible. It cvontinues to be a threat to the well-being of all living persons who work and live close by. dawn meade brightwaters, NY 11718 Jun 3, 2013 John hicks Ossining, NY 10562 Jun 3, 2013 There would be no possibility of Indian Point being built today in its present location as the risks would be unacceptable. But it does exist and its status has been justified because to remove it might raise our electric rates by 20cents/kwh. While the risk is low, imagine the effect of rendering the most important city in the world and its environs uninhabitable as was the case with Fukushima, because we were willing to risk such a disaster to save $.20/kwh. Any argument to preserve IP's status would appear to be pathetic if our water supply became contaminated because of such a disaster. The slightest possibility of such an event demands immediate shut down and eventual removal or all radioactive materials.

Only about 38 miles from NYC's boroughs, this olddddd style nuclear plant is sitting on the Hudson River (an extra water table conduit for its dangers), is near invaluable water sources, near one of the world's most important s cities in the histpory of the world with a huge population and is situated on the Ramapo fault.

Fukushima, an incredible worldwide disaster including areas of Tokyo, is located more than three times the distance from Tokyo at about 175 miles as opposed to Indian Point which is only about less than 50 miles from NYC, about 36 miles from the Bronx / Riverdale areas.

It is also important to recognize that Con Edison only contracts 500MW of Indian Point's output and the New York Power Authority is letting their contract for 200MW expire without renewing. We do not need the power and we do not want the accident risk or further build up of deadly radioactive wastes threatening the invaluable Hudson Valley and New York Metro area. BTW, about 90% of NYC's water supply goes through reservoirs and aqueducts with a few miles of Indian Point. PLEASE Think about upside benefit vs. downside risk potential.

That means electricity generated here is sold as far away as California, making Westchester a third world country where life is cheap and expendable. In the event of a grid failure, the generators will be vulnerable. It is possible to shut down the plant, but the spent rods will go critical without the million plus gallons of water needed to keep them cool.

There is absolutely no doubt that a significant risk of a nuclear meltdown could occur, due either to natural causes, terrorism or negligence. In any event, residents affected in any way will have no escape, and no recourse to litigation, should they survive, but be rendered unemployed, homeless and/or seriously ill due to radiation exposure. This could affect residents within a 50-mile radius, which would include New York, Connectijutt, New Jersey and Massachussetts, probably some 25 million residents at risk, just to avoid the unpleasantness of closing down a nuclear threat, cor which plenty of alternate power sources can be developed.

Indian Point ought never to have been built to begin with. Now that its license is expiring it is perfect timing to shut this dangerous horrifyingly risky plant down. Q: Are you aware there is no present authorized spent fuel rod facility to which Indian Point can ship its dangerous used rods? As a result they are stored on site in risky pools? People are learning how conflicted and weak is the regulatory apparatus charged with protecting area residents. How the Atomic Energy Commission is inherently pro-nuclear industry. How Entergy has proven dangerously sloppy and cheap in its activities (see Vermont/Yankee plant). People know difficult choices abound but people want elected representatives to be smart about people before money. Be smart about people and shut down this blight on the conscience of the community. Kill this plant and start a strong program to move towards renewables. Start today and accomplish something right tomorrow. Thanks!
