AmerenUE PO Box 620 Callaway Plant Fulton, MO 65251 November 16, 2004 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Mail Stop P1-137 Washington, DC 20555-0001 Ladies and Gentlemen: ULNRC-05090 CALLAWAY PLANT UNION ELECTRIC CO.

DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 IAmerefl EXTENSION OF CURRENT 10-YEAR INSERVICE UE TESTING INTERVAL FOR CALLAWAY PLANT This letter is provided to inform you that Union Electric Company (AmerenUE) is extending the current 10-year inspection interval for the Inservice Testing (IST) Program at the Callaway Plant, in accordance with the provisions of Subsection IWA (Division 1) of Section XI of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. The Code Edition(s) applicable to Callaway for its second 10-year IST interval is ASME Section XI, "Rules for Inservice Inspection of Nuclear Power Plant Components," 1989 Edition (with no Addenda).

The current (i.e. second) 10-year IST interval for Callaway, as originally scheduled, would end on December 19, 2004. AmerenUE is extending the interval for up to one year such that the interval would end no later than December 19, 2005, upon which the next (i.e. third) IST interval would begin. (The extension does not preclude transitioning to the third IST interval sooner than that date, if the decision were made to do so.) This extension is being made in accordance with IWA-2430(d) which states, "...inspection intervals may be extended or decreased by as much as 1 year. Adjustments shall not cause successive intervals to be altered by more than 1 year from the original pattern of intervals."
